The Astrology of Abundance
People
have always coveted wealth and riches, some are born lucky
while others are born into circumstances which prevented
the realisation of their desires. In ancient times astrology
was a tool used to determine just how abundant and prosperous
a person would become in their lifetime. By virtue of
the accident of their birth their destiny was set and it
was difficult to rise too far above ones origins. These
days we see many rags to riches stories but even so, astrology
still applies for those not destined to hold their successes
they return to the condition of their origins one way
or another.
There
are a certain set of considerations which, when applied
to a natal chart, will show what is the determined rank
and fame of a person in life and what financial status
they will achieve. Life conditions have changed and people
in developed countries today have more opportunities to
rise above their socio-economic birthright, yet we still
see instances of people failing to reach their potential,
let alone rise above it.
Wealth, in its raw form, can be seen in several places
in an astrology chart but there are also other factors
such as determining the Financial Significator and understanding
the influence of the Part of Fortune. Astrology becomes
quite a fine tuned art form when applied in this way and,
for those who seek true gnosis, it is unlikely that a
computer generated horoscope will ever be as good as a
live astrologer who is adept at his or her craft. The
second house can show some of the circumstances of a persons
overall wealth. The fifth house can show money which belongs
to family or money derived from real estate.
This is known
as a derived cusp, take the 4th house of real estate and
family and calling it the 1st house of real estate and
family, therefore the fifth house cusp in your own chart
will show some of the circumstances of family money because
it is the second house from the fourth. Modern astrologers
already use this method in part because they call the
8th house other people’s money or partner’s
money and so the 8th house is the second from the 7th
house of partner. The 11th house is the money house from
career or business because it is the second house from
the 10th.
Jupiter is the planet of abundance so its position
and condition is also of vital importance in gaining and
maintaining abundance. In poor condition it may bring
an abundance of ill luck rather than good fortune and
so one needs to learn how to overcome this influence.
Written in your natal chart is the cause and effect of
your life. It will show what prosperity and abundance
means to you and whether or not you achieve it. I should
mention that abundance and prosperity are not always about
money, often such things as joy and contentment can bring
a sense of well being which is akin to abundance, we prosper
within ourselves and not just in our material worlds.
Often, if we prosper inwardly it flows to our outer worlds
and I believe this is the secret of success in life. Money
does not always make us happy, first we have to master
contentment within.
In striving for abundance it is necessary to define what
abundance is, then we must apply this definition to ourselves
to determine how much is enough. I have worked with many
clients always seeking, never achieving because they had
failed to define the ceiling point towards which they
were working. Although it is good to have goals which
stretch us we should also be aware that abundance is really
having all we need for any given moment and just a little
bit more. To understand this we must develop a sense of
gratitude for what we already have, otherwise we can live
in a discontented state which precludes prosperity in
other ways. We can defer our happiness, contentment and
prosperity because we have an ill defined goal and fail
to appreciate what we already have or what we already
are.
Sometimes a person can achieve what they set out to do,
they are determined and work hard only to find themselves
back where they started over and over again. This too
will be written in the natal chart but it is possible
to overcome what we are seemingly fated to experience.
Astrology is a wonderful tool to develop self-knowledge
which leads to wisdom but even more than knowledge we
need gnosis, an understanding or recognition of the factors
which govern our lives. We need to learn about the patterns
in our lives, to know why these patterns exist and how
to overcome them.
I have a client and friend who appeared
to be always working and never achieving abundance so
we took a closer look at her chart. She had Mars in Capricorn
on the Midheaven, Mars also ruled her Ascendant and was
her Almuten Figuris, the dominating planet in her chart.
I surmised two things, the first being “I have to
work hard” which meant that if she attained abundance
the pressure would be off and she need not work so hard
so she worked and earned and then lost financial ground
by her actions and the choices she made so she would have
to “work hard” all over again. The second
factor was she believed she could not achieve her success
in life alone and thus wanted her partner to join her
in her business which he did not want to do. My friend
and client watched herself in action and followed my instructions
and within 4 months the abundance, which was there all
the time, began to work in her favour. She has mastered
the first part, she still struggles with partner issues
but she is gaining knowledge and understanding by recognising
her needs in action.
Good astrology should identify the
problem, find its source and offer solutions.
I would rather see people happy than rich but, then again,
if you are happy you are automatically rich because you
tend to look at life as being abundant.
